🚨 Graphic surgical pictures 🚨 Today we're sharing some images of an Achilles tendon re-rupture which needed a graft to bridge the large retraction. Label 1 - the ‘new Achilles’. A flexor hallucis longus tendon (FHL - tendon which flexes the big toe). The harvested tendon is taken through the heel on the medial side (The hole where instrument is pointing at) coming out laterally and then running proximally and taken through the proximal tendon and finally back down to the heel again (on the deep surface so not seen) Label 2- the FHL muscle belly which would normally be very deep at the back of the ankle and is now lying next to the heel because the tendon has been pulled through. The patient is recovering very well six weeks post op, and has a further week or two in a boot before the rehab can be ramped up a little from the current soft tissue work and low level loading.
