Open Sessions artist Jesse Chun examines systems of bureaucracy, language, and power to consider new translations of legibility, diaspora, and their possibilities. Imprinted onto and presented within the gallery’s walls, “untitled (exhibit A / and dust)” and “valid from until” presents a case for Chun’s own legible existence, not only as her work as an artist but also as part of her legal status as proof of qualification or a pending immigration petition. Questioning where the line between art and bureaucracy lies, Chun’s work addresses re-authoring and what makes us transparent and opaque at once.
