[Closing this Sunday, September 15] “Open Sessions 2018-20: What's Love Got to Do with It?" is the full-museum exhibition of the third cycle of The Drawing Center’s Open Sessions program - a two-year artists’ residency with thirty one participants from around the world.⁣ ⁣ Sharon Madanes’s practice focuses on the rituals, aesthetics, and ethics of medicine as contextualized within the banal and institutional surroundings in which doctors treat patients, and in which patients wait. Madanes explains, “They are about the slowness of waiting, how deliberately one can lift a leg, place a hand on a railing, shift weight in a chair; the speed of a resuscitation attempt, the frantic desperation, the heat building in arms as they pump mechanically into a chest to the rhythm of the Bee Gees Stayin’ Alive, monitors beeping, wires flying.”⁣ ⁣ Open Sessions is a two-year program which provides opportunities for selected artists to contextualize work and ideas through exhibitions, public programs, ...
