[Closing Sept 15] "Open Sessions 2018-20: What's Love Got to Do with It?" is the full-museum exhibition of the third cycle of The Drawing Center’s Open Sessions program - a two-year artists’ residency with thirty one participants from around the world. Featuring new work by Open Session artists, “What’s Love Got to Do with It?” will include works on paper, video, multimedia and sculpture, as well as installation, all of which place contemporary drawing at the center of an evolving conversation about love. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Tariku Shiferaw’s artwork explores mark-making to address the physical, metaphysical, and political spaces of art production. The artist explains, “I’m interested in America’s “love” for Black culture while it simultaneously deprecates the value of Blackness. From Blues to Hip-Hop, to sports and theater, Black culture has enriched the lives of many. Unfortunately, the cultural labor production of Black people is far more valued than actual lives.” ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀...
