“Open Sessions 2018-20: What's Love Got to Do with It?" on-view through Sept 15 is the full-museum exhibition of the third cycle of The Drawing Center’s Open Sessions program - a two-year artists’ residency with thirty one participants from around the world. Featuring new work by Open Session artists, “What’s Love Got to Do with It?” will include works on paper, video, multimedia and sculpture, as well as installation, all of which place contemporary drawing at the center of an evolving conversation about love. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Guadalupe Maravilla’s Vampire Empire is part of an ongoing series of drawings that examine the geography of his own migratory route from El Salvador into the United States as an undocumented unaccompanied child immigrant. Maravilla uses sixteenth-century manuscripts from Mexico as a starting point to depict pre-Hispanic events and the post conquest time period, which was a pivotal moment for migration and colonization.
