As part of “Open Sessions 2018–2020: What’s Love Got to Do with It?” (on-view through Sept 15) we asked each of our artists-in-residence: “What’s Love Got to Do with It?” Open Sessions artist 2018-20 Liz Collins responds below: . This piece is a collection of fervent marks made by over 60 people gathered together for the love of drawing, of the Drawing Center, of community and of collective creative labor, fused together to make one long scroll, which I then pulled together through my own fields of black (female) marks. Within the piece are the marks of many of the Open Sessions cohort, so the drawing holds our group. And the piece holds marks of many friends, and others who trusted this event to give them something. Why would I do an event like this?
