Open Sessions Artist 2018-20: Sharon Madanes⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Sharon Madanes’ work explores the rituals, aesthetics, and ethics of medicine, as contextualized within the banal and peripheral institutional surroundings in which doctors treat patients, and in which patients wait. Her drawing practice encompasses both what is traditionally thought of as drawing—pencil and gouache on paper—and a metaphorical type of drawing using cell phone images collected while working in the hospital as a medical student. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Sharon Madanes lives and works in New York. Her work has been shown at The Dot Project, London; Next to Nothing Gallery, New York; Vox Populi, Philadelphia.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Open Sessions is a two-year program which provides opportunities for selected artists to contextualize work and ideas through exhibitions, public programs, and critical dialogue, organized by Rosario Güiraldes and Lisa Sigal, Open Sessions Curators.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
