Paul Elliman (b. 1961) is a British designer and artist whose work explores language and technology using scholarly research to devise objects that negotiate the formation of meaning and human communication. In his ongoing Found Fount series, which he began 1989, Elliman sources objects and materials that are man-made and transforms them into letter-like shapes to create characters that are a part of a found typography. The construction of language and the built environment coalesce in these works which point to the malleability of both our world and the symbols we use to communicate within it. Elliman explains: “Even if we could imagine a world without words, it would be held together by a kind of typography.
