Open Sessions Artist 2018-20: Kunlin He on the Creative Block and Process . “I often stay in the studio for a whole day, but usually, only 6 hours is in the artworks. The rest of the time is in the reading, but I enjoy the process of being in a studio without making art. Some sinologists believe that the Chinese Masculinity relies on the ability of knowledge “cultural attainment” rather than the ability of the strong body “martial valour.” So I see the studio as my gym. I exercise the function of my brain instead of my muscles. . I recently created a long-term project about art and technology in my studio. Liu Kuo-Sung, the father of modern Chinese ink painting, believes that artists and scientists are doing the same experimental research. I agree with him: scientists are experimenting in the laboratory to prove his new ideas about the world, and artists are creating new media and style in the studio for creating a personal visual language.
