Rachel Goodyear (b. 1978) is a UK-based artist who works primarily in pencil, ink, and watercolor on paper to create macabre drawings of women and animals situated within fantastical and unsettling scenarios. The delicate drawings are usually small scale and unnervingly capture the edge between the real and the imagined. Goodyear’s mythological works on paper tiptoe into psychosis and disturbed realms that feature animals and women with spooky elements like masquerade masks, tall pointed hats, and blindfolds. Goodyear explains: “My characters present precarious relationships, both animal and human reflecting vulnerabilities, fear, desire, greed and self-preservation.
