The issues of “Interzone” on view here feature stories by Eugene Byrne and Kim Newman that would later be compiled into the book “Back in the USSA”. Set in a version of the United States thrown into communist revolution following both the early death of Theodore Roosevelt in 1912 and the Chicago workers’ strikes of the early 1900s, “Back in the USSA” imagines a North American version of the Eastern Block, led by Chairman Al Capone.
