Open Sessions Artist 2018-20: Bahar Behbahani on the Creative Block and Process . “When I feel my brain is stagnant or overwhelmed: I start the remedy with a short walk: approx. 1-2 miles (fig.1). It may or may not work. That means that I have to walk more: approx. 2-4 miles. At the end I might give myself a reward by going to a bookstore and coming back with a book to the studio (fig. 2). This mostly works. Sometimes it doesn’t work. I will go to the next level. I try to choose a destination so I feel “useful” and “goal oriented”. (i.e “I’m going to cross Williamsburg bridge to Manhattan and count the bridge bars and get back to the studio.”) That usually works. If that doesn’t work, a longer walk is needed: maximum 7 miles. (fig. 3) If that doesn’t work, I know the issue is bigger. Then I go for a hike: Bear Mountain. (fig. 4) .
