In Avengers
#87, a homesick King T’Challa, the Black Panther, reveals his origin story to the rest of the Avengers. He describes Wakanda as an African country able to thrive free of European colonialism. In the present, Wakanda is one of the most technologically advanced and socially just societies on Earth. “Look Homeward Avenger” is one of the earliest Black Panther stories. Black Panther was finally given a solo series two years later, in 1973.
