Helen Mirra (b. 1970) is a conceptual artist who works in a variety of ways including weaving, film, sculpture, and video, which all engage with ideas of Zen Buddhism and pragmatist philosophy. Similar to Buddhist thought, Mirra holds a skepticism towards language and looks to other methods like walking as a way of thinking without using a linguistic system. "[Walking] is an unskilled activity, and a modest activity, and a free activity, and an always-available activity, and an equipment-free activity, and an active activity,” Mirra explains. The endless ways, methods, and places to walk provides Mirra with a poetic endeavor to discover the world and her own being. Mirra describes herself as “A walking experiment.
