Open Sessions Artist 2018-20: Esteban Cabeza de Baca . Esteban Cabeza de Baca envisions earthbound narratives in tangled relationships to capitalism and colonialism. He translates lost indigenous knowledge and beliefs in his paintings and sculpture to imagine past the nihilism of the planet from global warming. He juxtaposes imagery and abstraction to challenge the loss of natural resources and to reanimate pre Columbian mythologies in the Americas. . Esteban Cabeza de Baca lives and works in New York. His work has been shown at the Fons Welters Gallery (Amsterdam, NL), David Richard Gallery (Santa Fe, NM), Dickinson Gallery (New York, NY). . Open Sessions is a two-year program which provides opportunities for selected artists to contextualize work and ideas through exhibitions, public programs, and critical dialogue, organized by Rosario Güiraldes and Lisa Sigal, Open Sessions Curators. . #OpenSessionsTDC #EstebanCabezadeBaca estobaca Image: Esteban Cabeza de Baca, “Ancestors”, 180x...
