Read artist Toyin Ojih Odutola on her New York Times Magazine cover below and come see her work in The Drawing Center’s ongoing exhibition “For Opacity: Elijah Burgher, Toyin Ojih Odutola, and Nathaniel Mary Quinn” on view in our Main Gallery. We reopen after the holidays this coming Wednesday, January 2. The exhibit is on view through February 3, 2019. Via toyinojihodutola ・・・ nytmag’s cover for “The Lives They Lived” issue, out this Sunday, drawn with ballpoint pen and pencil. I took this opportunity deeply to heart. Wanted to capture the vitality, freedom and vulnerability emblematic of a woman who truly redefined an art form and created a new language of expression. I hope you all hear her unmistakable and inspiring voice when you see the portrait as I did while drawing it. Many thanks to Gail, Jessica, Kathy, Jake and everyone in NYTMag staff for their support and generosity, it was an honor. #ArethaFranklin#ToyinOjihOdutola
