Open Sessions Artist 2018-20: Cosmo Whyte when did you decide to become an artist, and why? . “The “decision” to be an artist is one that I find myself revisiting often. From a very young age it became clear to me that this was what I was meant to do. When I was in the 5th grade, my elementary school participated in a painting and drawing competition. While we didn’t win, my painting was printed as a limited edition Jamaican stamp. That experience, staying after school in the art classroom, ignited a passion for art that grew.” - Cosmo Whyte . Cosmo Whyte lives and works in Atlanta and Montego Bay, Jamaica. In 2015 he was the recipient of the International Sculpture Center’s “Outstanding Student Achievement in Contemporary Sculpture Award”, and this year he is the recipient of the Moca GA (Museum of Contemporary Art Georgia) Working Artist Project. .
