Open Sessions Artist 2018-20: Liz Collins when did you decide to become an artist, and why? . “I have always been compelled to make things and to filter my experience through material and visual means. It was never a choice, but rather an essential way of being in the world. I was exposed to so much making through my family, with textile craft and construction being a big component of that; and I developed an appreciation of art and design as a child living near the Smithsonian and DC art museums, learning about art and the possibilities and freedom of it.
