Open Sessions Artist 2018-20: Katarina Burinwhen did you decide to become an artist, and why? . “The boring story is that I always made art and loved my drawing classes and all my art teachers throughout high school and my undergraduate studies. The slightly sexier story is that I decided to become an artist during a studies abroad trip to Italy in my junior year in college while traveling with artist photographer friend Ron Jude, which exposed me to contemporary art for the first time. It was a year of Documenta, Venice Biennial and Münster Sculpture Project, and I was seduced by Rodney Graham’s Vexation Island—not that it directly informed my work, but the memory is vivid and unforgettable.”- Katarina Burin .
