Artists have a variety of methods to make their mark. Every Friday we will share a photograph of an #ArtistInAction Kenneth Noland (1924 - 2010) was an American painter and active in modernist movements during the mid-twentieth century including hard-edge abstraction and color field painting. He was a key member of the Washington Color School - a group of artists that concentrated on color field painting, which was a non-representational style that involved covering canvases with large areas of solid paint as a way to investigate color. Noland adopted a few signature subjects like targets, chevrons, stripes, and shaped canvases. The minimalist works sought to represent pure color and embody an objectivism devoid of emotional content.
