Open Sessions Artist 2018-20: Bahar Behbahani when did you decide to become an artist, and why? “My early childhood consisted of rolling around amongst my father’s writings, seeing myself through my mother’s camera and splashing around my uncle’s studio. I was six when I noticed the people; they filled the streets, shouting with their fists clenched in the air. “The revolution” was there. Clearly differentiating public from private behavior was essential to navigating everyday under the multilayered yet restricted society. Taking an ironic stance, abstracting cultural relationships and blurring the edges of socio-political signifiers became gestures of communication and later it turned into the process of creating art.”- Bahar Behbahani .
Bahar Behbahani lives and works in New York. Her work has been shown at the Hood Museum of Art at Dartmouth College, the 11th Shanghai Biennale, China, and the 7th Moscow Biennale, Russia.
