Open Sessions Artist 2018-20: Jonathan Ehrenberg when did you decide to become an artist, and why?
.
“A few years after grad school I was feeling stuck in the studio. I found a bunch of painted masks that I had made as a kid, and noticed that they felt less inhibited than my current work. I decided to remake the masks, and from there decided to shoot videos of actors wearing the masks. I didn’t start with much of a plan, but these intuitive decisions opened up a new way of working for me. And I remembered that the feeling of freedom was what drew me to making art in the first place.” - Jonathan Ehrenberg
