JV: “I have a few explanations in relation to my preference for found materials over blank substrates. One of those concerns the history inherent in the found object––it offers the possibility for a conversation or a negotiation with the object rather than an imposition or a monologue.”

SH: “A driving factor in my art making is my need to find a mark that feels essential. I like the possibility that words––like marks on a drawing––could communicate something fundamental about living.”
