Every Friday we will share a photograph of an #ArtistInAction. 〰️ Andy Goldsworthy (b. 1956) is a British artist known for his environmentalist sculptures that are often situated outside and made out of earthly materials like stones, twigs, and branches. Inspired by Land Art of the 1960s, Goldsworthy’s works are inspired by and pay homage to the natural landscape. Goldsworthy deviates from his predecessors, however, by using a more modernist style that has a geometric elegance. For example, his vertical rock sculptures comprise of several stones stacked on top of each other to achieve a delicately balanced column. Oftentimes the construction of these works require meticilous hours of concentration. Working on farmland since he was thirteen, Goldsworthy has a deep affinity for outside labour.
