Every Friday we will share a photograph of an #ArtistInAction. 〰️ Marilyn Minter (b. 1948) is a New-York based artist who explores sexuality, beauty, and glamour in her explicit photorealist paintings and photography. Often featuring women wearing heavy makeup or gaudy fashion, Minter creates her photorealist paintings using photographs she took herself. Without any digital editing, Minter uses the photographs as references to combine elements from each into a single picture of garish beauty. Usually made with enamel paint on metal, Minter’s large-scale works are loud and mesmerizing in their glossy surfaces. Both beautiful and vulgar, Minter’s images are inspired by fashion magazines, but combines that aesthetic with graphic imperfections like sweat, spit, and acne.
