Marjane Satrapi (b. 1969) is an Iranian comic artist best known for her autobiographical graphic novel “Persepolis,” which won worldwide acclaim for its groundbreaking storytelling. The two-part story chronicles her experiences as a child through young adulthood in Tehran. Satrapi’s family were politically active Marxists and were targeted by the Muslim fundamentalists who took power after the 1979 Iranian Revolution. While in prison, Satrapi’s uncle told her: “Our family memory must not be lost.
