#SunXun’s animation Shock of Time (2006). The 2009 exhibition Sun Xun: Shock of Time presented two recently hand-drawn animations by the Hangzhou-based artist. Shown together for the first time, Shock of Time (2006) and Lie of the Magician (2005) combined traditional drawing materials and printmaking techniques with digital media. Made from hundreds of drawings on Communist newspapers, and using some of the traditional Chinese printing techniques and brush painting rejected by Mao’s Cultural Revolution, Shock of Time animated a series of vignettes about memory and the passage of time through various tropes of duration and transience.
The Drawing Papers are a series of publications documenting The Drawing Center’s exhibitions and public programs and providing a forum for the study of drawing. -Kate Robinson, Bookstore Manager
