Chitra Ganesh is a Brooklyn-based artist whose drawings combine the aesthetics of early modern fairytales, traditional Buddhist and Hindu mythology, and contemporary visual culture. Her drawings, which weave together diverse archetypes—animal hybrids, female warriors, and heavenly landscapes—construct complex narratives that disarm the insulating function of national and religious traditions. An exhibition of a new series of animations by Ganesh, entitled "The Scorpion Gesture", will be on view at the Rubin Museum of Art (rubinmuseum) in New York until January 2019 alongside the exhibition "Face of the Future", which Ganesh organized and which will be on view until November 2, 2018.
