A Page from the #DrawingPapers Archive This page from Drawing Papers 73 features “Inner Falls Ensoulment”, a colored pencil on paper drawing by #AlanSaret created in 1970. Alan Saret: Gang Drawings marked the first major museum exhibition of Saret’s work in nearly two decades. Saret was a vital part of the Soho alternative art scene in the late 1960s and 70s, as well as an important figure in the history of process art and post-minimal art. The exhibition focused on the artist’s “gang drawings,” made from fistfuls (“gangs”) of colored pencils swept across the page, spanning from the 1960s to the present. Each work is a kind of experiment- however seemingly controlled the procedures and materials, the changes of pressure on the pencils, the number of pencils employed, the choice and order of the color, and the variety of the gestures made possible endless drawing solutions.
