Artists have a variety of methods to make their mark. Every Friday we will share a photograph of an #ArtistInAction. You may know her face from the popular TV series, Girls, but what you might not know is that Jemima Kirke (born 1985 in London, England) has a passion and talent for painting girls. Based in a studio in Brooklyn, Kirke has been building an art career since before she ever considered acting. The artist received her bachelor’s degree from Rhode Island School of Design and fell into acting due to the encouragement of her long-time friend, Lena Dunham. Despite her success in acting, Kirke never put painting aside. She loves to paint her friends and family, and much of her work focuses on bringing those models’ personality and presence onto the canvas. Using a unique and vibrant palette, Kirke combines representational and abstract elements into her portraits.
