Of course, it almost never does; that's what makes it so boring.” - Edward Gorey 〰 “Amphigorey” is a compilation of 15 different books by illustrator Edward Gorey published individually between 1953 to 1965; the title itself plays on the word amphigory, meaning a nonsense composition. Self-describing his works stylistically as literary nonsense, Gorey mixes the mundane with the surreal and creates mesmerizing stories. Gorey’s notable cross-hatched pen-and-ink drawings allow for him to create scenes of great detail filled with varying shades of gray. His illustrations, often times accompanied by poetry or prose, open a world of morbid humor, misfortune, and eccentricities.
