#MuseumInstaSwap 2017 and The Drawing Center is giving you an inside look at our neighbor the New Museum newmuseum.
This year the New Museum and The Drawing Center are celebrating our 40th Anniversary. Both institutions were also founded by women! Martha Beck, a curator a MOMA was our founder and in 1977, Marcia Tucker established the New Museum to support the work of living artists and to champion art as a vital social force. During her tenure, Tucker embraced diverse voices and visions and shaped the institution’s ongoing advocacy for women artists as a hallmark the New Museum’s mission. “The museum was started at the extreme edge of idealism and of optimism,” Tucker said, and her vision of “new art, new ideas” continues to define the museum today.
