Throwback Thursday! In the Spring of 1978, we opened “Paperwork”, an exhibition of recent work by ten artists who had not exhibited in New York before. This show was the third in a series presenting works selected from our Artists’ Viewing Program, which, only a year after its founding, had reviewed the work of more than a thousand artists. This selection gave evidence of the diversity of approaches, intentions, and methods contemporary artists were bringing to the medium. The interpretations of drawing in this show ranged from scrupulous architectural renderings to panels of Masonite collaged with paper. Among the work exhibited were #RolandAyers’ meticulously drawn windswept fantasies and #AllanWexler’s views of plant forms seen from above. #RobinLehrer’s works were whimsical collages. “Bound Object,” made of pen and ink, tape and watercolor, consisted of a variety of corsets drawn against a diagonal grid.
