Artists have a variety of methods to make their mark. Every Friday we will share a photograph of an #ArtistInAction. With a multidisciplinary approach, Mateo López creates in time and space, using his architectural training and penchant for collection and recombination to build variable structures. Born in Bogotá, Colombia in 1978, López blends sculptural and drawn elements to build structures that range from communicative to autobiographical. Geometric and illusionistic spaces, both two and three dimensional, are often placed in relationships with one another in his works. Where López introduces structure, he often also introduces absence, reincorporating and exploring the effects of discarded portions of the forms and images he works with.
