This week we are installing Jackson Mac Low’s “Lines-Letters-Words” in our Drawing Room gallery. Join us for the Opening Reception next Thursday, January 19, 6-8pm. Like the Asymmetry poems that Jackson Mac Low wrote between 1960 and 1961, Mac Low created the visual Drawing-Asymmetries by using an ‘acrostic-chance’ method. To create both bodies of work, Mac Low began with a single ‘generator’ word, which he derived impulsively from books, poems, articles, and other texts in his environment. He then wrote a series of words that contained or began with a letter from the ‘generator.’ Both the Asymmetry poems and the Drawing-Asymmetries were meant to function conjointly as performance scores. #JacksonMacLow #openingsoon
