Throwback Thursday! In November 2013, we opened “Dickinson/Walser: Pencil Sketches”, an exhibition featuring the work of renowned writers Emily Dickinson and Robert Walser. This marked the first time their work was showed in an art museum setting, which seemed appropriate given the particular attention both authors gave to the visuality of theirs texts. Dickinson's original poem manuscripts, written on carefully torn pieces of envelopes and newspapers, were presented alongside Walser's microscripts, which were written on narrow strips of paper using an antiquated German alphabet. The form of these texts affects the language itself as both writers crafted their words in response to the form at hand. #EmilyDickinson #RobertWalser #pencilsketches #literature
