Throwback Thursday! Spanning the period from the mid-1960s to the present, our exhibition from 2014 "Thread Lines" featured sixteen artists who engaged in activities such as sewing, knitting, and weaving to create works that activated the expressive and conceptual potential of line. Artists working in textiles during the post-war period confronted the assumption that lines could only be made by pencil on paper. "Thread Lines" brought together those pioneers who first unraveled the distinction between textile and art with a “new wave” of younger practitioners who inherited and expanded upon their groundbreaking gestures. The works shown illuminated affinities between the mediums of textile and drawing. Some of the artists featured were Louise Bourgeois, Lenore Tawney, Monica Bengoa, Alan Shields, among others.
