"Open Sessions: Cartography of Ghosts" is on view through December 18. Featuring the work of
#ReginaAgu,
#MustafaFaruki,
#jclenochan,
#FlorentineLamarcheOvize and
#AlexandreLamarcheOvize,
#SreshtaRitPremnath, and
#GabrielaSalazar, the artists explore drawing as a tool to make visible the personal and human traces that haunt the public and material.
#GabrielaSalazar’s "Contour for Leading, Contour for Supporting Role, and Contour for Dark Corner" is a serial sculpture that simultaneously appears to be a support for, and is supported by, the room where it is installed. Following the planes of The Drawing Center’s Lab Gallery, "Contour" reiterates and adheres to the rules of found architectural choices, meanwhile suggesting a closer, unexpected, experience of those surfaces and planes. Made of two clays—ceramic and plasticine—"Contour" confuses these materials’ usual lexicons and properties to create a precarious mimesis of the useful and the sturdy.
