Draw with us during our next FAMILY ART WORKSHOP, FREE this Saturday from 10:30am-Noon families with kids, 10-15 yrs, will explore work in “Cecily Brown: Rehearsal" Keeping in mind the original meaning of “rehearsal”–-going over something again and again with an aim to understand or master–-families will discover Brown’s reworking of motifs from a wide range of art historical source material including prints by eighteenth-century draftsman William Hogarth and pages from animal encyclopedias. From this practice of “sympathetic learning”, Cecily Brown draws over and over again compositions, or fragments of these sources.
Brown states “Learning to draw is teaching yourself how to see.” Families will create their own drawings as we observer Brown’s repeating theatrical devices that include ornamental borders with fragmented figures floating in and out of shapeless voids in which forms dissolve.
