Ten years ago, in 2006, we opened “Crust and Dirt’s Instant Drawing Machine”, which featured the work by artists
#OliverHalsmanRosenberg and
#ClintTaniguchi. The pair, who collaborate under the name Crust and Dirt, exhibited wall drawings and scrolls made with their Instant Drawing Machine, which generated playful images from the wishes from passersby on the streets of Barcelona, Shanghai, Stockholm, London, Tokyo, and New York City.

Using a laptop, a regional collaborator from the gallery hosting their show took to the streets in search of a wireless internet connection. Once the connection was found, the laptop was placed on top of a pedestal and the webcam activated. Anyone curious enough to approach the station found Crust and Dirt appearing full screen and waiting, from their studio in San Francisco, to hear the wishes and dreams of participants across the world.
