A Page from the #DrawingPapers Archive This page from Drawing Papers 9 features Drawing with lines (fragment from self-portrait as a building) drawn with pencil on paper by #MarkManders in 1998. For his 2000 exhibition, “Mark Manders: Room with Several Night Drawings and One Reduced Night Scene”, Manders created a new installation as part of his series Self-Portrait as a Building, a work in progress the artist had been developing since 1986 that explored a partially real and partially imaginary self-portrait. Manders wrote, “For me, drawing is research into thinking rather than an investigation of perception.” His installation combined works on paper with wall drawings, sculptures, and everyday objects, such as cups and ropes. The Drawing Papers are a series of publications documenting The Drawing Center’s exhibitions and public programs and providing a forum for the study of drawing. -Kate Robinson, Bookstore Manager
