Our fall exhibitions open next Thursday evening from 6-8pm. One highlight is “Olga Chernysheva: Vague Accents”, a series of drawings the Moscow-based artist made during a month-long visit to New York in November 2015.
Chernysheva had a solo exhibition at PaceGallery in London last year, featuring a selection of her photography capturing the streets of Moscow alongside drawings, videos, and a projection. Art Daily’s article reviewing the show notes how Chernysheva offers a sharp vision for the sociological value of the quotidian and how “Chernysheva’s interest in the mundane reality of street life reveals both an embrace of nineteenth- century Realism and a rejection of the more aggrandizing Socialist Realism that pervaded her childhood.”
