Wangechi Mutu (b. 1972), born in Kenya, is considered one of the most important contemporary African artists in recent years. Her work spans over a variety of mediums, including drawing, collage, video, performance, and sculpture. She is best known for her big, provocative collages depicting hybrid female figures, which reflect on the ways human identity is dictated by the sociopolitical environment surrounding us.
