Pakistani-born artist Shahzia Sikander specializes in Indian and Persian miniature painting, a traditional style that is both highly stylized and disciplined. Her struggle between East and West later became her main artistic motivation, stemming provocative imagery that perpetuates – and counters – stereotype paradoxically. Feminism and gender roles prevail as the thematic ideas in Sikander’s work. Sikander has written: “Such juxtaposing and mixing of Hindu and Muslim iconography is a parallel to the entanglement of histories of India and Pakistan.” #ShahziaSikander
