Artists have a variety of methods to make their mark. Every Friday we will share a photograph of an #ArtistInAction. Martin's interest in Asian philosophy and influences from the Abstract Expressionist movement helped define the key themes in her work which were grids and lines in subtle colors. The time spent in her studio and living in small New Mexico towns reflected her desire for solitude resulting into what was defined as "essay in discretion, inwardness and silence." Her earlier works in New York contained a black and white single rectangle transformed into a grid of rectangles. Introduction of color and the refinement of the grids of rectangle, used in her previous works, occurred during her time in New Mexico. #ArtistInAction #AgnesMartin
