Artists have a variety of methods to make their mark. Every Friday we will share a photograph of an #ArtistInAction In the early 1950s, Cy Twombly studied at the Art Students League in New York and through Robert Rauschenberg’s encouragement he attended the Mountain College in North Carolina. In the summer of 1969 he created a series of paintings while residing on the shores of Lago di Bolsena in Italy. During this time Twombly shifted from his signature “blackboard” paintings to working on warm ocher-white ground. Painting simultaneously on several canvases, the artist was inspired by landscapes, classical mythology, Greek and Roman themes, and epic poetry.
