In November 1993, we exhibited The Return of The Cadavre Exquis which featured over six hundred collaborative drawings by contemporary artists from around the world. The culmination of a two-year drawing project, the exhibition was composed of contemporary drawings based on the Surrealist parlor game, Exquisite Corpse, as well as a selection of works by Surrealist practitioners of the game. The game cadavre exquis is played by three or four artists as follows: player one draws a head on a sheet of paper. then folds the paper to conceal the drawing from player two, who adds a torso, conceals it, and passes the drawing on to player three, who adds the legs. ( If four are playing, the torso is divided twice). The drawings from this exhibition were generated in two ways: either artists chose to organize their own drawings, playing among friends and colleagues or they asked The Drawing Center to choose their partners for them.
