Alvin Lucier is an American composer and pioneer of experimental music using various unusual sounds performed in unconventional manners. Sol LeWitt was among the artist-friends in Lucier’s circle who inspired and exchanged ideas that influenced the systematic approach in his music compositions. Lucier and LeWitt collaborated numerous times and in one installation, he explored the sound of an empty gallery along six points of LeWitt’s wall drawing. Lucier described this technique used in the same installation as the "sine wave effect" which takes tones and produces interfering beats making sound and silence; LeWitt's “Curve Wall” provided the visual reference to Lucier's sound. Opening April 15, “Drawing Dialogues: Selections from the Sol LeWitt Collection” is an exhibition featuring over 100 works by more than 60 artists from the renowned artist’s extraordinary collection.
