Opening April 15, “Drawing Dialogues: Selections from the Sol LeWitt Collection” is an exhibition featuring over 100 works by more than 60 artists from the renowned artist’s extraordinary collection. It is the first large-scale exhibition of the collection to be held in New York in over 30 years. Evening Opening April 14, 6-8pm Alighiero Boetti was born in Italy in 1940. He was an important figure in the post-war European art and was a member of Arte Povera movement, a group of Italian artists using everyday materials. During the early 1970s he travelled to Afghanistan which had a major impact on his work. Boetti was exposed to the traditional craft of embroidery which he used to create his gridded and mosaic-like pieces in collaboration with local Afghan weavers. Many of his woven fabrics (kilims) consisted of sayings, which were often chosen in collaboration with these craftswomen.
