#TBT! In celebration of #WomensHistoryMonth, we are highlighting "Ree Morton: At the Still Point of the Turning World", exhibited in Fall 2009, which focused on the drawing-based work of Ree Morton. Celebrated by her peers as well as younger generations of artists, Morton pioneered a body of work that uniquely responded to and challenged the Postminimal and Feminist Art of the 1970s through her use of personal narrative, humor, and poetic imagination. Ree Morton’s influential body of work was produced in less than a decade, between her decision to turn to art full time after raising a family in the late 1960s and her tragic death in an automobile accident in 1970. Morton’s investment in notions of personal narrative in intimacy and humor, made her work not only a vital contribution to feminist artistic practice but also central to the very character of the art of the last three decades. #TheDrawingCenter #ReeMorton #5WomenArtists #drawing
